At Lane Cove Public School (LCPS) we have a music program provided to our students, organised by the LCPS music committee which is run by parent volunteers, a sub-committee of the school parents and citizens' association (P&C).
Children may participate in one of the school music ensembles. These groups provide students with a wonderful opportunity to make music with their friends, to learn to play in a group situation and to extend their appreciation of music. The groups are given as many opportunities as possible to perform at school assemblies, school functions and also in the community. Belonging to a group is a great motivator and probably the main reason for the strength of instrumental music at our school.
All children enrolled in the music program have a private music lesson each week with a specialist tutor in addition to their group rehearsal. Students who have private tuition outside the school are also welcome to join an ensemble. Most rehearsals and private lessons are held before and after school on the school premises.
