Mountain Pepper
Scientific name: Tasmannia lanceolata
Appearance
● It has cream and yellow-coloured flowers.
● Its height is 3 – 5 metres, while its width is 2 – 4 metres.
● It has oval shaped leaves with pink stems.
Uses
● Its leaves are partly used for sweet and savory dishes and its berries can be used for spicy dishes.
● Mountain Pepper can be found in Aboriginal cuisine as a food flavouring, as well as traditional medicine for skin care and stomach aches.
Location and climate
● It is found in woodlands and cool temperate forests in Australia’s south-eastern region.
● They grow well in 21-24 degrees celsius, and their berries are best harvested from March to May.
