Scientific name: Violia banksii

Appearance

●       It has a height of 15cm and a width of 30cm.

●       It has dainty mauve and white flowers.

●       It has kidney shaped leaves with white, five petalled flowers.

Uses

●       They contain high amounts of vitamin A and Vitamin C

●       The native violet is edible and has a delightful and mild taste.

●       The green leaves are also edible.

●       They are used for lovely finishing touches to desserts, as well as salads.

Location and climate

●       Native violets grow in most parts of Australia.

●       They love chilly and shaded areas that are mostly damp.

●       It is very easy to grow, and it doesn’t need a lot of help to grow.

Interesting facts

●       The native violet flower can last up to 50 years.

●       The roots and seeds of this plant are toxic and should not be eaten.

●       It was first discovered in Botany Bay 1770

●       They do not have a strong scent.
