There are so many musical opportunities for all students K-6 at Lane Cove Public School.
We are lucky to have a specialist music teacher instructing our students as part of the Release from Face to Face (RFF) program.
Students in Kindergarten and Year 1 participate in singing, moving and playing activities. Students explore sound through playing non-melodic percussion instruments. They learn about rhythm and beat, dynamics and tempo. They sing a large range of repertoire and have opportunities to perform in assemblies, community events and school events such as the Easter Hat Parade and during Education Week.
Students in Year 2 start learning to play the recorder, as an introduction to wind instruments. Students learn to read traditional music notation, as well as developing their aural skills.
In Stage 2, all students develop their listening skills by learning about Programme Music and Instrumental Families of the Orchestra. Singing and movement are still important parts of the Music RFF Program, and students also learn to play the glockenspiel and xylophone. Rhythm, beat, structure and tempo are taught through chair and bucket drumming ensembles.
Students in Stage 3 continue to develop their musical skills by playing the ukulele in their music lessons. Students also participate in lessons on graphic notation and composition with the use of music technology, iPads and laptops.
Choir is offered for students in Year 4 and in Years 5/6. Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students participate in whole grade singing every week. All students in K-2 participate in a performance by Musica Viva, learning and preparing for this performance ahead of the event in Term 4.
Music is an engaging, fun and extremely valuable way of educating the 'whole child' at Lane Cove Public School.

Pilliga Stomp
Words and Music by Dan Walker
Some things in this town
They can get you down,
Don’t worry ‘cause they don’t frighten me,
They don’t frighten me.
The wind and the glare
Dust is everywhere,
Keep going ‘cause they don’t frighten me,
They don’t frighten me,
They don’t frighten me.
No one will rain on our parade,
No one can take the things we’ve made.
No one will rain on our parade,
Don’t worry ‘cause they don’t frighten me.
No one can take the things we’ve made.
Keep going ‘cause they don’t frighten me.
No matter who we are,
No matter where we’re from,
Wherever friendship finds us,
We’ll have a place to belong.

Welcome the Day
Words and Music by Rachel Kelly
There’s a golden glow,
There’s a hint of newness in the air,
A feeling
Of something yet to come.
You can watch it grow,
As the night is fading,
A new day has begun.
Look up, look around,
Everything is shining,
Can you see the colours painted in the sky?
Listen to the sound,
Everything is waking,
A new day has begun.
So lift your voice,
And sing with me,
See the wonder of possibility.
Make a choice,
Don’t throw it away,
The time is now to welcome the day!
Look up, look around,
Everything is shining,
Can you see the colours painted in the sky?
Listen to the sound,
Everything is waking,
A new day has begun.
So lift your voice,
And sing with me,
See the wonder of possibility.
Make a choice,
Don’t throw it away,
The time is now to welcome the day!
Open your eyes, see what’s waiting for you,
Take a deep breath and let the sun shine through,
The moment is now, it’s time to light the fuse
Of possibility.
The future’s unwritten and your story’s untold,
Adventures are on their way,
The time is now to welcome the day!
So lift your voice,
And sing with me,
See the wonder of possibility.
Make a choice,
Don’t throw it away,
The time is now to welcome the day!
The time is now to welcome the day!
